I gave this to a friend who hung it on their bedroom wall, where it’s a lovely contrast with the straight lines and black and white colours.

Using yellow as the dark colour in a painting which relies on light and shade was, it turns out, quite tricky. Lengthening the nose made a huge difference in how cheerful the face was able to look, too.
This time with much less green! My children were tired of my painting with “the wrong colours.” I think this one looks like a 1980s CD cover. If we had CDs in the 1980s; I know I only had cassettes.

This one was named by my toddler, whose pronunciation is imperfect; when she saw it, she shouted POWA with such passion and enthusiasm that I realised that she was quite right.
